The handle is water, shock and temperature resistant. A whistle with a range of 300 m is located at the end of the handle. A heavy-duty 2.5 mm thick blade has a 3.5 cm notched area, which is very effective for cutting natural or synthetic ropes without tearing, as well as a shackle remover for 4 to 10 mm shackles.
The blade is made of martensitic stainless steel with high hardness due to the addition of nitrogen (0.15%) and superior corrosion resistance due to a high chromium content (16%).
The handle is injected in polyamide filled with glass fiber which guarantees a high resistance to shocks, water and extreme temperatures (-40°C to +80°C). A whistle is integrated in the heel of the handle, without ball, it works in all weather, with a power of 110 dB, it has a range of about 300 meters in open area.
Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring equips all closing knives from N°06 onwards. Cut out of stainless steel, the Virobloc is made up of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety in use), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safety in transport).
